Review of Mute (2018) by Mahmus — 18 Oct 2020
It's like "Nicolas Winding Refn meets Blade Runner", which sounds like it should be amazing, but instead it just feels like a bunch of cyberpunk iconography thrown in in the hopes of making the story less boring. It doesn't. It really doesn't.
It makes the same mistake many other bad movies do. It sets its story in a sci-fi or fantasy world and completely wastes it a generic crime thriller plot that doesn't let the world be of any use.
It's also way too long. The longer it went the less I liked it, which is a shame because it actually started pretty strong.
Alexander Skarsgård and Paul Rudd are pretty good though. The visuals too.
