Review of Must Love Dogs (2005) by Megan B — 02 Dec 2009
The problem with Must Love Dogs is that it lacks the excitement, pizzazz and good laughs needed for a good romantic comedy. The concept of having a rom com about dating after divorce as well as adding older actors and the internet it might reach itâ??s core audience of women 40 to 60 but isnâ??t going to interest much of anyone else.
There is very little chemistry between any of the characters because it retrospect the two main characters, Sarah and Jake, barely know each other yet fall head over heels in love by date four. I respect both Diane Lane and John Cusack but they could have done a lot better in script choices.
The film feels as lonely as desperate as its protagonists. Everyone is wallowing in self pity that being alone is the end of the world. Maybe being single would do them some good. Get a dog!
