Review of Music of the Heart (1999) by Layne W — 10 Sep 2008
A schmaltzy excursion with a message: music is important. Of course, when the person delivering that message is Meryl Streep, you're almost required to listen. The reason I'm only now getting around to seeing "Music of the Heart," despite educating myself on so many other Meryl movies over the years, is that I was convinced this was one of those films she agreed to doing just for the paycheck.
I understand now, after seeing the magic she works here, that those movies don't exist in her repertoire. She's the greatest there is, even if the movie is not.
