Review of Music from Another Room (1998) by Tyler M — 31 Mar 2012
What music suits you?
It's you're average cheesy romantic comedy... But it's still worth looking at.
The Story: A young man tries to win over the girl of his dreams... Okay, so there's a little more to the story than that. She's engaged to be married, and has a somewhat strange family. The family includes a sickly mother, a cynical father, a man-hating sister, a blind sister, and a brother in a crumbling marriage. The story revolves around him becoming friends with her family, and slowly working his way into her less than affectionate heart. It's not the greatest story, nor is it really even that original, and it's fairly heavy on the clichés, but it's got a charm about it that makes it a worthy rental.
The Cast: Jude Law, Gretchen Mol... Jude Law is Danny trying to get the girl he in theory can't have. He's charming, he's witty, he's funny, not his most memorable performance but still good. Gretchen Mol, is Anna, she takes care of her family, and doesn't quite know how to have fun. She gives a decent performance, there's numerous other actress' that could do the part just as well though.
One to Five Scale: 3.
If you're a fan of the genre than you'll be a fan of this film, but if you're not a fan of the genre it's hit or miss... For most, I think miss.
