Review of Music and Lyrics (2007) by Andy O — 30 Oct 2009
I watched this with my best friend last weekend and we had a great time, Music and Lyrics is the Best example of a romantic comedy I have ever seen.
I have watched this movie about four times now and I still love it, in essence it cheers me up when I'm down (trust me that is a difficult task).
Firstly the chemistry between Hugh and Drew is something to be seen and it just works for the over the hill 80s star and the dizzy but lovable character that they play.
It is worth noting that Hugh Grant sings all of his own songs in the movie which is really impressive and will leave you singing the main song as you finish watching the DVD.
It has some strong comedic elements in it as well and I have to admit that I laughed out loud on many occasions.
Music and Lyrics is also a surprisingly intelligent movie with a thinly disguised pop against the over-sexual bordering on indecent pop female pop stars that are idolized by millions and in fact have little musical ability or talent.
In summary this movie makes in on to my best films list as it ticks all the boxes it can for its genre, it is funny and charming, contains good chemistry and contains a very well written script which is expertly shot.
