Review of Muriel's Wedding (1994) by Louis F — 15 Jan 2009
Hilarious and incredibly dark.
Totally packaged wrong. From the cover it looks like an obnoxious "made of honor" style romcom, but in actuality is dark, or as the aussies say it "Dahk".
Man. A dysfunctional family like you haven't seen, makes the "Little Miss Sunshine" family look like the Waltons.
Toni Collette had to get fat for the movie and it shows, she is, fat.
The story is just so original and darkly funny.
I was really blown away. I hated Abba before I watched this movie and now, well, I still hate Abba, but not as much as I did before.
Really unique film. Great cast, great writing, great acting, see it, before it sees you.
