Review of Muriel's Wedding (1994) by Lucy S — 29 Jul 2010
If I'm being completely honest, I wasn't looking forward to seeing this film. It seems too chick-flick-y for my taste but it is the film that introduced the world to Toni Collette (and to a lesser extent, Rachel Griffiths) so I decided to give it a try.
Well, it is kind of chick flick-y but the performances and the better-than-average script kept me engaged. I can see why Collette's career was launched by this film. I'm also kind of surprised that although it's centers on a wedding, it's NOT a romantic comedy at all.
