Review of Muriel's Wedding (1994) by Ken C — 27 Apr 2011
One of the few chick flicks that I actually enjoyed quite alot. Toni Collette does an amazing job and the overall story makes me want to go out and do things with my life. All she really does is just get a job at a video store and yet her life seems so much more full than mine. Toni plays Muriel who is lonely, unrespected, and well bored with her life. She's also obsessed with getting married. So after her friends dump her she steals money from her father and goes to an island for a vacation where she coincidently bumps into an old friend from years ago. They both become BFF's and Muriel's life gets turned into the right direction. She gets a job, guys asking her out, an apartment, new clothes, and a whole new life in general.
It sounds quite girly yes but once you actually watch it it's very moving and heartfelt. Great acting, great story, great everything, very underated.
