Review of Murderball (2005) by Lala W — 12 Dec 2005
I loved the movie for two reasons. As superficial as this sounds, I thought some of the men were incredibly hot, secondly, the director captured the competitive spirit of the game really well. Additionally, I found it quite appealing to see these men have so much drive to win the game and their aggression is evidenced on the court. Alphamales sweating and competing = hotness. Midway through the movie, I found myself rooting for the USA team and sweating bullets during the final minutes of each competition. Additionaly, I would catch myself denouncing the traitor Canadian coach and hoping that the blood vessel in his forehead would pop already. Its difficult not to walk away from the movie supporting the team and the director did a good job setting up the "story" so that you end up supporing one team over the other.
As the movie was produced by MTV, there was a definite MTV reality series education quality to it, but instead of dragging the movie down, the directors did a good job of portraying quadraplegic/paraplegic athletes and their competitive spirit in an accessible manner. Who hasn't thought about whether male sexual organs can still function after men becoming paralyzed from the waist down? There are several reasons to watch this movie, but if wanting to know the answer to the foregoing question is one of them-- who cares-- at least it'll get you to watch it.
