Review of Murder-Set-Pieces (2004) by Tim H — 24 Aug 2010
This was a film I had heard a lot about when it came out and was anticipating the DVD release. Once again, thank you Lions Gate.
I got a copy of a few weeks ago and just finished it. It took me 3 tries to finish this film. The first time, I fell asleep; the second try, I got bored and shut it off. It is a very long 83 minutes.
I didn't get it at first, but this movie was done like an Italian 70's horror film. Like totally fucking Argento, with some Fulci elements mixed in. Once I realized that, I liked it.
Before that, I took it just as a cheesy, boring, american psycho rip-off. The dialouge is hard to listen too and the acting sucks, but I love this film's style.
It was shot in vegas,in like 3-4 weeks, for about 2million. Nick Palumbo wrote, directed and produced this film he did a great with the money he had.
The hero is an 11 yr old girl and is the only female in the cast that is not either an adult fim star or a real prostitute. It's about this photographer in Vegas who kills people (mostly women). Oh yeah, he's also a mentally distrubed nazi fucker too. Gunner Hnaser and Tony Todd have brief cameos; and it was chill to see them. The effects (which were why I wanted to see this) weren't all they cracked up to be. All I heard about was the violence and gore --- well this was pretty tame compared to some of the Nikkatsu pink wave films, or like the nazi-ploitation shit form Italy. It was an "R" cut, but still , that was cut that all these whining crictics saw.
This is no oscar-worthy film and like I said is hard to sit through, but Murder Set Pieces is deffinatly a cult classic; i'm gonna keep my copy.
