Review of Murder on the Orient Express (1974) by Jeff B — 16 Jun 2011
What a twist! No, but seriously this is actually a good film. (Though probably my second favorite Connery train movie from the 70s.) An all-star cast. Ingrid Bergman won an Best Supporting Actress award for this for some reason.
I've never read a novel starring Hercule Poirot nor even seen anything else with him in it, but the whole mystery and how he unraveled it was fascinating. Lumet does interesting work here, notably in the way he awkwardly orients the camera angles on the flashbacks to statements made earlier in the film.
Very off-putting and helps create mistrust in what the character might have said.
