Review of Murder on the Orient Express (1974) by Calyre Z — 15 May 2011
Sidney Lumet's adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic Hercule Poirot novel of the same name features an all-star cast (Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, Anthony Perkins, etc.
) and superb direction. The film is an often hilarious multicultural detective film that has loads of great performances, but ultimately the film seems to drag on indefinitely without any genuine thrills or plot turns to keep one interested as Poirot interviews one suspect after another.
An enjoyable--if somewhat tedious--detective film that generates laughs and interest in a variety of quirky, bizarre characters but that ultimately feels a little stodgy because it devolves into little more than a series of interviews.
