Review of Murder Mystery (2019) by Phoenix_Prjct — 11 Apr 2023
Final Thoughts:
Murder Mystery is undeniably schlocky fun, but, despite its short runtime, it struggles to get itself going. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as Nick and Audrey Spitz work the same, and the film largely depends on whether you’re a fan of theirs (I’m fifty/fifty, given their limited range).
Plot beats and chemistry are missing from the first third of the film, and, for many, when they improve, it might be too late. Persevere, though, and the comedy begins to hit, the thrills finally manage to pulse, and some genuine heart comes shining through to finish on a satisfying note.
