"Murder by Numbers" couldn't be a worse title for this film. Barbet Schroeder's film is by the numbers in almost every way imaginable. From the bored rich kid killers, to the emotionally battered detective to the good vs.

evil mentality, it's all just rather boring. While Ryan Gosling and Michael Pitt do their best to keep their storyline halfway interesting it's Sandra Bullock's half that ultimately collapses the film.

Bullock does her best and her effort is commendable but the cheesy flashbacks and sound effects associated with her thoughts cheapen their supposed emotional impact. In addition Ben Chaplin and Chris Penn are equally horrible.

"Murder by Numbers" is an overall silly film that is undone by it's pension to deliver silly melodrama.
