Review of Muppets Most Wanted (2014) by Sarah K — 24 Apr 2014
Mildly funny, but nowhere near as good as the 2011 film, as perhaps predicted in the opening scene when they talk about inadequate sequels (".everybody knows the sequel is never quite as good").
For me, it was disappointing to see the comedic talent of Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey pretty much wasted on lackluster scripting. Ty Burrell's Inspector Clouseau impressions similarly fell flat. The myriad cameos are delicious gems throughout and to see Ray Liotta and Jemaine Clement in the prison review was outright side-splittingly hilarious.
Like most of the Muppets franchise this is really not for kids and I must say that scene where Constantine is singing 'I'll Get You What You Want" to Miss Piggy while holding a big jar of Vaseline and wearing a polyester disco-stye outfit was quite disturbing, notwithstanding the usual discomfort of the cross-species love story.
Perhaps influenced by Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie??
