Review of Muppet Treasure Island (1996) by James B — 23 Sep 2010
This is a favorite film of mine, and I remember seeing it in theatre when it came out. Now, I can quote almost the whole film (much to the annoyance of those watching with me). Tim Curry and Bill Connolly are great as pirates, and the entire Muppet cast is a pleasure as always.
The reason for only a three star rating, though, is the actor who plays Jim Hawkins and his voice talent (just awful), and the fact that the jokes are not perfect, the timing off a bit and nothing is developed.
The humor tumbles along with a proper pacing, leaving the comedy a bit tired. This is not to say that I still do not laugh the whole way through, I just ignore Jim Hawkins and revel in the subtle (or not so subtle) references and the other humorous moments.
No matter what, it will still be a classic for me.
