Review of Muppet Treasure Island (1996) by Kristen R — 03 Jan 2012
(4 Stars) Muppet Treasure Island is fun for all. It's like a Muppet movie should be: comical jokes, amusing gags, and enough self-referencing humor with the lovable Kermit, Gonzo, Rizzo, Sam Eagle, and Fozzie Bear.
.. surprisingly, Miss Piggy appears after the one hour mark. I've watched this movie a few times as a kid yet I think I laughed more watching it now; there's just so much more that I noticed. There's a lot of Caribbean Cruise humor with the Muppet rats, but each joke escalates from the last so it doesn't get stale.
Tim Curry is perfect as Long John Silver: funny, deceptive, and one booming voice. Like the audience, he's having a good time. Lyrically, the music isn't exactly as memorable as other Muppet movies, but the tunes are very swashbuckling and perfect for setting the mood of the film.
Honestly, I feel like it's one of the best pirate movies out there for kids and there are a lot to pick from. Muppet Treasure Island is fun watching for kids, adults, and Muppet fans alike.
