Review of Muppet Treasure Island (1996) by Stacy G — 14 Apr 2012
Following the success of Muppet Christmas Carol, Brian Henson brings the vaudevillian gags of the Muppets to Robert Louis Stevenson's beloved adventure story. Kevin Bishop plays the role of Jim Hawkins, but the real human star is the endearingly hammy antics of Tim Curry as Long John Silver.
The remainder of the cast is filled out by Kermit, Fozzy, Gonzo, Ms. Piggy, and the rest of the familiar gang. As a whole, Muppet Treasure Island is an affable kids movie filled with amusing sight gags, catchy songs, and impressive puppeteering.
I still crack up every time I hear Rizzo and the pirate crew do a call-and-response over "People die by falling overboard.".
