Review of Munich (2005) by Claire H — 07 Sep 2010
Having little knowledge of the events that this film is based on is probably not the best place for a viewer to start, but director Steven Spielberg (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) still manages to create a captivating film that is as gritty as it is heart-wrenching.
Equipped with a strong cast featuring Eric Bana (Star Trek), Geoffrey Rush (Shakespeare in Love), and Daniel Craig (Defiance), Spielberg takes the viewer on a gripping odyssey of self-discovery, paranoia, and betrayal.
Is it perfect? No. There?s actually a few fairly disturbing scenes (besides the brutal assassinations) that don?t fit, and the plot can be a little confusing as to who?s doing what why at times. However, in the grand scheme of things, Spielberg delivers a well-crafted film based in history with great performances from the entire cast and a wonderful score by frequent Spielberg collaborator, John Williams (Memoirs of a Geisha).
