Review of Mum & Dad (2008) by Lee A — 05 Sep 2010
I came into this film, with low expectations after reading reviews here and on IMDB, but I came out confused and satisfied.
Confused at the slating that the film received from many reviews, and satisfied because what I ended up seeing was one of the top British Horror films I have watched.
Mum and dad, to the bare bones, is about 2 parents whom forcefully adopt kids who are either integrated, or chopped up.
The acting, of all actors in this film, was first class, and Perry Benson out shines them all with his first class acting of a typical British fatherly attitude, coupled with this complete insane killer. From the word go, the film attains that British grittiness and rawness you find in many of our horrors.
The film manages to get what many British people will see as family like from its dialect, twisted into horror and sends a chill to the viewer. Being able to relate your family to the characters in the film shows to me that plenty of this films scenes were made with the british in mind.
The pace never dies, until the climax which I felt to be somewhat predictable, but it never spoils the film. The film also maintains a constant dark humour level about itself, and pulls it off well.
And of course who can remember the masturbating meat scene. It will scar me for life.
If you enjoy British Horror, than you couldn't go wrong with Mum and Dad.
