Review of Multiple Maniacs (1970) by Ihra L — 14 Jul 2009
John Water's best films, and one of his first. It might not be the best shot, the best edited, but what it brings is encompassed in all of his other films. If Pink Flamingos made him the Pope of Trash and the King of Filth, than this movie should crown him the Monarch of Trash and the God of Filth.
The story is insane from beginning to end, with hilarious and original ideas throughout the entire feature. Quick example: "it was then I noticed she was using her rosary as a tool of erotic pleasure" If you can get your hands on an actual copy like I did, than it's worth keeping, and if you can't, well you're missing out on one of the most original films ever, and I don't mean original unicorns falling from the sky into volcanoes, I mean people in pseudo-realistic situations designed by Freud and written by Kafka.
