Review of Mulholland Drive (2001) by Maximiliano H — 28 Mar 2015
Firstly, this film is extremely complicated, and for that reason left me wondering what the hell at the end of it. That said, it still kept me very interested all the way through. Perhaps it was the characters, perhaps it was the bizarre plot turns.
Either way, even without a full, or even significant understanding upon the first view, it still stood out as an amazing film. However, after reading a couple of explanations, and re-watching it, now I can say that my adoration is fully justified.
Yes, it a very complex and incoherent film, lacking in linear narrative and the usual plot devices. But putting that aside, what you get is an intense, emotional, deeply captivating, thrilling and brilliant movie.
The subtle hints are endless, the connections perfect, the entire narrative fitting together and providing an alternative view of Hollywood. But just don't expect to understand it the first time round.
