Review of Mulan II (2004) by Dex B — 08 May 2013
"Mulan 2" will entertain young children that are absolute die-hard fans of the original film but as they grow it's certain that their liking of it will wane and for adults there isn't much here.
The film isn't all bad, the animation still looks good and Mark Moseley does a good (although not 100% convincing) imitation of Eddie Murphy. The new songs, while nowhere near the quality of the first "Mulan" are decent too.
The film is not simply a rehash of the first, which is a bonus, although the story presented instead doesn't offer any surprises and is very predictable. Because the story doesn't contain any surprises it will become dull for anyone that can see where the story goes, cementing it as a strictly-for-kids movie.
Although it's harmless there isn't anything at all that makes this stand out or really measure up to any of the charm of the first film and it's hard to recommend watching it unless your children are already viewing it and decide to drag you onto the couch too.
