Review of Mulan II (2004) by Iris S — 22 Feb 2009
Oh no! It's the curse of the sequel!
Compared to the awesome original, this is complete crap. No ... hang on. It's complete crap all on its own. But considering the original was so good it's really a waste.
Flat writing, undeveloped characters (that is, they don't develop further than where the original left them off) and corny songs. While we previously had a Best Music Score Oscar nominee (and a fully deserved one), we now just have flat songs with juvenile lyrics. Bleh.
I said in my review of the original that Eddie Murphy as Mushu was annoying. It turns out it's even more annoying when Eddie Murphy is not Mushu.
Even Ling, who you may remember as the idiotic skinny with the whiny - but - kinda - catchy voice, is reduced to a ... yeah, well, he's reduced, at any rate.
Why 2 stars? Because I thought the original was so good and I'm still clinging on to the hope that I just missed something.
