Review of Muffin Top: A Love Story (2014) by Kelly M — 08 Nov 2014
I had the privilege of seeing this movie during it's debut at the Carmel Film Festival. I'm proud to say I was one of the first to see this movie in a theater setting.
My initial thoughts are that the first 15 minutes move pretty fast. I understand that, because there is a lot to explain and the 15 fast minutes are hysterical and keep you interested.
Once the plot is set the movie settles into a nice pace of great jokes and laughter.
At the premier my only real complaint was that the jokes moved at such a fast pace and the audience was SO responsive with laughter that I missed some of the punchlines. What a problem to have huh?
In rewatching the movie on Video On Demand, I am happy to say that I enjoyed it just as much as the first viewing and I can't wait to watch it again with my bestie.
I really hope that this movie reaches a large audience. It has a very special message about body acceptance and that you don't need to be a size two to love yourself and find others that love you.
There are no movies out there on the rom/com circuit that deal with body image/shaming that have a positive message in the end. One of the movie's taglines is "Love yourself now, not five pounds from now" and that is something people I hope people take away from this movie.
