Review of Mudbound (2017) by Richard S — 19 Feb 2018
This is a grim story of the struggle for survival in the Mississippi Delta before, during and after the Second World War. One man moves his family along with his hateful and bigoted father to a cotton farm, hoping to make a life and future for himself. During heavy rains, the farm is cut off from the town, making life in the mudflats even harder. As the war ends, 2 young men return from war, one the younger brother of the farmer and the other the eldest son of the black farm workers who despite returning a war hero faces prejudice and hate from the people in his home town. The 2 men begin a friendship that eventually leads to tragedy.
Not the happiest of stories but a very well played out tragedy by all the players.
