Review of Mudbound (2017) by Jake R — 22 Feb 2018
Heavy in its observation of some of the darkest times in American history, 'MUDBOUND' still manages to bring light into the world, much due to its outstanding cast & unforgettable performances.
Beautifully directed & expertly written, it dives into the harshest realities of American history during WWII and the atrocities that existed both abroad and back home. Jason Mitchell delivers an astounding performance, as does Garrett Hedlund, but the realest, most impactful performance comes from the beloved Mary J.
Blige as Florence Jackson, the unbreakable mother who keeps her family strong even when facing the darkest depths of human evil. Director Dee Rees' film is a triumph, standing tall and focusing on the heroes whom all to often have gone unnoticed.
