Review of Mud (2013) by Izz C — 13 Nov 2013
Feels like a modern day childhood adventure fantasy, with a sense of hidden wonder beyond everyday life. The script avoids sanitizing the two kids at the center of the film as the troubles of the adults around them bleed over into their lives, and as their retreat into the fantastical brings them to face harsh realities.
Matthew McCaughney shows surprising range as the eccentric titular character, his larger than life persona covering vulnerability and confusion.
