Review of Mud (2013) by Tor M — 20 Nov 2013
Two hillbilly boys hook up with a mysterious bad-ass on an island. They get curious, an so do you - the viewer.
This film has a very, very good pace. It's long, but never felt long. It's semi-tense, always developing, got some milestones and it always feel real. Magnificent setting, great colors and smooth pictures is topped by a great casting and some great performances - from child actors included. Their characters are truly a great couple by the way, funny and charming. Quite sensitive film that can make some sort of inpact on you supported by fitting music, that's mostly very vague and soft - it does not steal any focus, it sharpens it.
Reminds me of "Beast of the Southern Wild" and "Winders Bone" - not bad, huh? There is not much "real" action here, if you want smashed heads and blasts - look elsewhere. There are many angles here, and there is not much wrong about the film. Still I felt it got a bit overdone and it went on when I felt done with it. Not a big problem of course, but it almost looses it's grip. At least it's loosing up near the last part for me.
8,5 out of 10 drops of duck butter.
