Review of Mud (2013) by Brian C — 08 Jan 2014
Mud - coming-of-age film written and directed by Arkansas-born Jeff Nichols. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Reese Witherspoon. Mud premiered at Cannes Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival.
Mud seeks refuge at partly secluded island from men of law and father of his victim - he is located by two teen boys, by chance. Turns out that Mud done all this for his love-interest (Reese Witherspoon). Tye is suffering from torturing domestic-issues, between his father and mother - his failure with falling apart with his own tender love-at-first-glance.
If I had not seen Dallas Buyers Club, I would have something positive to say about this movie. I have seen better movies than this - to be frank, I don't see too much performance from Matthew, as much as he has given in Dallas Buyers Club (not even as close to brief 'superstore-scene' performance from Dallas Buyers Club, as compared to entire performance from Mud). One can hardly go with, successful ambush of all goons; who were talked in the movie, as if unbeatable people.
I do realize it had little to do with Mud and lots to do with Tye Sheridan's own coming-of-age; putting himself in others shoes, at what he actually saw in Mud. A fairly digest-able movie - but not that impressive as much as it has gained score on RT and its users.
