Matthew McConaughey shines in Mud, but he is supported by an unlikely cast who is just as talented if not even more so. The two boys in the movie are probably the most fitting and natural characters in the entire thing.

Reese Witherspoon is also featured in the movie, however, her part is so minimal there's little point in talking about her role. Having grown up in the south around waterways I thoroughly enjoyed Jeff Nichols portrayal and love of water.

Few film directors seem to cover this subject, but Jeff Nichols dared to do so. The concluding scene with Mud and Tom looking out at the entrance of the river to the ocean conveys this love about as well as any film I've seen.

With that being said, there were elements of hollywood in the production, but still the movie held its own. The cinematography was great, however, the music was lacking. In many instances where the movie had the chance to move the viewer, but the music failed to go where it needed to.

Still Mud is an excellent movie and worthy of a view. However, if you like Matthew McConaughey or you have a relationship with water, then I would say you have an obligation to see it.
