Review of Mud (2013) by Colin S — 18 Jun 2014
Mud is great story telling. The whole time watching I was thinking that this is a film to take notes on. The flow of the characters and what we see them doing and what we dont is perfectly even that there isn't a moment that isn't important.
We go places and see things because they are right at the time and that makes perfect balance. The characters are all very real and I really felt for them. McConaughey shows his true ability and is worth an Oscar nomination at the very least.
The depth of emotion that is tapped into in this film is a beautiful thing. There are these moments when the naivety of romance and life in the eyes of the youthful is laid out on the table and its so pure it makes you feel that way yourself.
There is something about life in south that makes me very nostalgic; even though I didnt grow up in the south it has a strange draw on me. The performances by the two boys in the film are really great as well.
Great talent these boys. And Michael Shannon makes me laugh too.
