Review of Mud (2013) by Dan L — 26 Jul 2014
Great powerful acting by the two kids (really strong willed mature beyond their years kids - both of them were especially great characters full of heart). I really enjoyed everything about this movie, as it was very complex, inspirational, and required my full attention - but it was sure a serious, fun, engaging, brilliantly acted "movie" that takes a different road than the current genre of slick science fiction movies, and this "turn to the left" couldn't happen at a better time (2013).
Stands on its own as one of a kind. I thought this was a powerful drama - I don't watch many "coming of age" dramas or southern serious tales about human relationships, I don't watch hardly any at all - but this one was good and maybe even great.
Great drama and storytelling. Like Gravity without the phenomenal stunning visuals, so I would give it an 8 instead of a 9. Wonderful acting and some astounding character relationships, very odd and swampy southern drama, a classic in many eyes, which was kind of a stunner for the world to be treated to such a good drama with eye popping characters and emotionally beautiful and moving changes in the soul.
I was moved. It was such a good time to watch. Just so nice.
