Review of Mud (2013) by C T — 14 Oct 2014
First of all, I have to give props to the child actors in this very adult film. Both Sheridan and Lofland sold their roles in solid performances, especially against a skilled, seasoned actor. There are some really amazing camera shots in this movie, and the sound editing was on par; whispers were not stage whispers, and shouts were audible from far away without edits in post.
While there were several plot points that I wish had been explored more deeply, but skimming over them didn't take away anything from the story. I was really impressed by McConaughey's performance, and would rank this as even with, or even above, his role in Lincoln Lawyer.
He never overacted or over-dramatized, and you saw genuine changes in Mud's character over the course of the movie. Definitely one of the better movies I've seen in a while.
