Review of Mud (2013) by Alan T — 28 Jul 2015
Old-school coming of age story-telling highlights this original and thoughtful Southern film. Two boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and his best friend Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), along the Mississippi River in Arkansas encounter a fugitive named Mud (Matthew McConaughey) as he hides on one of the small islands along the river from both law enforcement and bounty hunters, waiting for the woman he loves, Jupiter (Reese Witherspoon), to come to his aid.
As Ellis acts as messenger to Mud and Jupiter, the young boy becomes a man, discovering the power of faith within oneself and the harsh reality that not every one is dependable.
