Review of Much Ado About Nothing (2013) by Tyler R — 23 Jun 2013
Joss Whedon has done the impossible. He has made one of the best Shakespeare adaptations that's probably one of the funnies to come along in a long time. This is not a movie for everybody that dialogue is still the same Shakespeare dialogue and the tone shifts a lot of the time the movie is going on.
But overall this is a romantic comedy that most people who will give it a chance can ultimately relate to. The plot is all over the place revolving around a group people who are in a romantic triangle with one another.
It would take me forever to fully give a plot for this movie so i'll just discuss the other things like the performances are top notch from everybody. The movie is shot in beautiful black and white that makes it more engaging to look at.
This movie is also really in the tradition of slapstick comedy which makes the black and white even more evident because some of the best slapstick comedies of all time were shot in black and white. I believe I should discuss how involved Joss Whedon was on this movie.
He didn't only write and direct he also composed the music, He also edited the film with help from co editor Daniel S. Kaminsky and he also produced it. You can see that this is his passion project and he does an awesome job of conveying that to the audience.
In a disappointing summer movie season a movie like his comes along and it makes you hope that the rest of the summer movie season has movies that are this enjoyable and that they don't all have non stop action.
In a summer movie season that has been composed of sequels and disappointments Much Ado About Nothing is a breath of fresh air.
