Review of Much Ado About Nothing (2013) by Nicholas S — 09 Feb 2014
The Shakespearean comedy "Much Ado About Nothing" has been made into a movie more than once; this incarnation, however, sets Shakespeare's play in a modern setting while maintaining the play's lines for the script.
It may be a bit hard to get into it at first, due to the old English for all conversations, but if you can get through the first half-hour, the plot picks up and can make it rewarding. The acting is well done, providing the viewer with enough gestured hints to understand what's going on if you get lost trying to interpret every sentence.
Some acting is exaggerated further for the comedic elements, but in a way that feels appropriate for the most part. Bottom line, if you do not read/speak Shakespeare (the category I belong to), the nonverbal elements are good enough to make the language barrier less of a distraction.
There are a couple of sexual scenes to be aware of; other than that, watch and appreciate how language as both changed and stayed the same in this comedic tale of love.
