Review of Much Ado About Nothing (1993) by Stephen M — 18 Mar 2008
It's just not a good movie. I'm sorry to say it but the American actors are out of their league and don't seem to know what they are doing. Each of them are actors I have loved in other films but who cannot seem to get out of the briar patch on this one. Denzel Washington fares the best; Keanu Reeves, the worst. Michale Keaton (who I happen to love) needs closed captioning - not one word is discernible. I wouldn't even mention this movie except for these fine points:
Gorgeous scenery, beautifully photographed.
Patrick Doyle's lush score.
Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh's scenes as Beatrice and Benedick -- gorgeous!
