Review of Much Ado About Nothing (1993) by Dave L — 30 May 2009
Probably one of Branagh's best film adapations, Much Ado delivers the wit, charm and good humoured fun that leaps from the page when reading this marvelous play. There were strong performances all round with the exception of Keanu Reeves and Michael Keaton.
The latter of whom covered his lack of understanding regards the script with cheap slapstick and mumbling. But the film is really all about Beatrice and Benedict, and both Branagh and Thompson inhabiting the roles perfectly.
And there's just something about hearing Emma Thompson speaking Shakespeare's words that is truly magical.
