Review of Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994) by Vania P — 24 Jun 2007
Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle is an interesting movie that just falls short of being brilliant. Jennifer Jason Leigh shines in this movie, though her voice is a bit difficult to understand at times.
Telling the story of Dorothy Parker, the film really illuminates the depression behind the caustic wit of her writing. There were intriguing times and a shocking moment when she makes her first attempt at committing suicide.
Constantly falling in love with married men and experiencing trials that fuel her writing, the story ends abruptly and incompletely. It was a good attempt and near splendid. Lots of witty banter and intelligent discussions are what keep this movie going, carried by Leigh's stunning performance.
