Review of Mrs. Miniver (1942) by Calvin C — 16 Apr 2011
The Best Picture winner for 1942. A pro-military war film that came out during the start of the war. It reminded me of "Gone With The Wind" without all the soap opera drama. The story stays personal as we see how the war effects Mrs. Miniver and her family. The fact that we mostly hear the war and not see it makes it more effective. Greer Garson is amazing in her Oscar-winning role. The end speech is very uplifting and motivating. A great movie for the time and a great movie overall.
Grade: A-.
