Review of Mrs. Miniver (1942) by James H — 14 Jul 2005
A big 5 stars goes to this timeless tale. Yeah, yeah it was some in-your-face propoganda back then but so what? It was extraordinary. The performances were perfect, all of em.... from Garson to Whitty, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of them.
William Wyler ceases to astound me and captivate us with a lovely and fascinating story that everyone can relate to. I am very pleased it swept the Oscars because there was no competition. The cinematography is impeccable and gorgeous.
I didn't like how the German soldier encounter scene was executed but oh well... everything else overshadows such.
