Dench and Hoskins are wonderful to watch, but the script is pretty lame; why, you ask yourself, was this film made? Even Mrs. Henderson's motive for opening a theatre isn't consistent; she eventually explains that she did it to strike a blow for .
. . [the following may spoil the surprise] YOUNG MEN, so they could see NAKED WOMEN before they went off to war??? This is a noble cause? Sorry. It just didn't work.
