Review of Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005) by Laurel B — 09 Mar 2009
Fantastic film about the first theatre in war-torn London to showcase non-stop cabaret performances featuring musical revues and nude dancers. The director, Stephen Frears captures the Blitz era perfectly right down to the mannerisms and costumes of the time.
This film is lavishly decorated and historically accurate and the performances are impeccable; the 'nudity' is tasteful and appropriate in the context of the times and setting. Hoskins and Dench are well cast as the producer and invetsor/owner of the infamous Windmill Theatre.
Their dynamic is not as titular as it could have been but the supporting cast including Mr. Guest are solid. Great movie for any fan of musical theatre or just theatre in general. Props also go to Will Young, the English pop star in his first acting role.
