Review of Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) by Johnny T — 02 Mar 2011
A genuinely funny comedy. Classic Robin Williams movie. Director Chris Columbus shrewdly brings together many of the same selling points as in his "Home Alone" movies, mixing broad comedic strokes with heavy-handed messages about the magical power of family. The dress, the mask and Mrs. Doubtfire's gentility are inherently limiting, but nothing holds Mr. Williams back when he's on a roll. And you will laugh till your ribs ache -- not because director Chris Columbus of the "Home Alone" movies has a gift for farce, which he does, but because Williams is to funny what the Energizer Bunny is to batteries. He keeps going and going and going. "Mrs. Doubtfire" is an extremely funny and heartfelt film. It has tons of laughs as well as tears.
VERDICT: "Better Than Anything" - Highest rating in the system (Universally Positive reaction). Usually I give this rating to a movie that I believe is absolutely outstanding and has little to no flaws in it..
