Review of Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) by Jaime T — 31 Aug 2011
One of my absolute favorite films starring Robin Williams, who absolutely showcases his talent as the film's protagonist Daniel Hillard and the title character. He shows his signature gift for comedic improvisation as well as portraying some poignant emotions.
His relationship with his Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson are very realistic and I got a true sense of a father and kids relationship. I also enjoy how they play off each other in their scenes together.
Also, his strained relationship with Sally Field is also real because it portrays the seriousness of marital problems which plays as one of the key elements to the film's drama. One of my favorite aspects about the film is the craftiness of the character, Daniel Hillard.
I find it incredible how quickly he devises solutions or tricks for the various conflicts he encounters. I am also impressed with the make-up which transforms Williams into the English nanny Mrs. Doubtfire.
Those responsible for the make-up definitely deserved the Academy Award. Overall, I consider Mrs. Doubtfire a delightful and hilarious comedy with some potentially touching moments. Also, I think it is an undeniable treat for those who are hardcore fans of Robin Williams, and possibly for some who are not.
