The film is surprisingly better than expected. Granted - it is based on a set up that is most suited to the medium of television and doesn't brilliantly translate well onto the big screen (the lack of live audience is a real hindrance).

But Brendan O'Carroll in the writing and performance just about manages to pull out several gags which mainly work and nod to the television series, and of course it's stupid, farcical, preposterous, crass tosh, but that's what made the series to be so popular.

It's far, far from perfect and I would have preferred it not to have happened, but all things considered, it's nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
