Review of Mrs Brown (1997) by David S — 26 Feb 2009
Judi Dench is at her best playing Queen Victoria in the years after the death of her beloved Prince Albert. Billy Connolly is also great as Mr. John Brown, the Scottish attendant who helps her deal with her grief and becomes her close confident.
Dench and Connolly are surprisingly good together and their relationship totally believable. The script gives them both the chance to really act their socks off. The film seems very low key and what it boils down to is a great script and superb acting.
