Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Johnathan D — 23 Jan 2015
Dreadful. slow, meandering and very long. For all the crying, grunting and manipulative violin music, I never cared enough about any of the characters to go along for the ride. Spall, who critics are praising in this role, plays a cartoon character (grunting, growling, brooding, blah blah blah).
It feels like no one wrote this movie, but that the actors were directed to make it up as they went. There are random conversations that pertain to nothing (one character comes in for a scene to talk about prisms, another seen shows a woman pretending to laugh while Spall recites a long shitty poem).
Overall, just a mind numbingly dull and depressing film about unlikeable people. Nothing to see here.
