I love Jimmy Stewart. Alrigt, so I'm a big fan of It's a Wonderful Life, which is directed by Frank Capra, just like this one. I found it really interesting that 1) Jimmy Stewart's character's mother is played by Beulah Bondi in both these movies, 2) Thomas Mitchell has a large supporting role in both movies, and 3) there is a scene of Jimmy (ok, fine, James) Stewart looking all misty eyed while a large crowd sings Auld Lang Syne.
The only difference is the scene is at the end of It's a Wonderful Life and right near the beginning of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I really liked Jean Arthur as well. She was really good, a natural.
You don't get many of those back then, most people have this fake acting that used to be considered good.
